Michael Wynne

Michael co-wrote Pawel Pawlikovsky’s latest feature film MY SUMMER OF LOVE (BAFTA for Best British Film 2005, Best Screenplay Evening Standard Film Awards, the Michael Powell Award - Best British Film at the Edinburgh Film Festival, joint winner of the Director Guild Awards Best British Film).

Born and brought up in Birkenhead, Michael now lives in London, having completed a Politics degree at London University.

His first stage play, THE KNOCKY was originally performed as part of the 1994 Marks and Spencer/Royal Court Young Writers Festival, where it was later revived and enjoyed a highly-acclaimed run at the Royal Court Theatre Upstairs.  The play was awarded the Meyer Whitworth Prize, and has been recorded for BBC Radio.

His play SELL OUT, for Frantic Assembly, played to enthusiastic reviews, and won the Time Out Best Off-West End Production award.  He also wrote a play entitled TOO COLD FOR SNOW, which was commissioned by Prada for the Miu Miu Fall/Winter Collection, and performed by British actors as part of fashion week in Milan in January 1999. Also THE BOY WHO LEFT HOME a contemporary fairy tale for Actors Touring Company which toured throughout the UK.

His last play THE PEOPLE ARE FRIENDLY played to great reviews on the main house stage at the Royal Court in 2003.  Michael is developing THE PEOPLE ARE FRIENDLY as a feature with Buffalo Pictures.

At the invitation of Primary Stages in New York Michael took part in the Old Vic New Voices programme 2004.

He collaborated once again with Frantic Assembly on their site specific project DIRTY WONDERLAND, which received terrific reviews.

Michael wrote an original pilot SUBSTANCE for BBC Choice, which was produced in 1998 and has also written for WHERE THE HEART IS for United Television, Granada’s GRAFTERS, REACH FOR THE MOON for LWT, AS IF for CARNIVAL, U GET ME for BBC/Darrall Macqueen and the second series of the BBC sitcom EYES DOWN.

He wrote for the Channel Four series SUGAR RUSH and the BBC Series MAYO

Michael is currently writing the single comedy drama LAPLAND for BBC Comedy.

Michael’s two-part play TITS/TEETH was performed in August & September 2009 at the Soho Theatre for the National Youth Theatre Soho Theatre Residency.

Michael is currently under commission from the Royal Court Theatre.

His new play THE PRIORY has enjoyed a sell out run at the Royal Court Theatre December 2009/January 2010 and was the winner of this year’s BEST NEW COMEDY OLIVIER AWARD.
