Sarah McDonald Hughes

Sarah is an actor and writer from Manchester. Recent writing work includes Maine Road for BBC Radio 4 and Last Orders for the Royal Exchange's 2009 PUB season. Sarah is Co-Artistic Director of Monkeywood Theatre Company and has written a number of plays for them including A Song for the Lovers (The Lowry, 2008) and Maine Road (National tour, 2010). Sarah has collectively written a number of plays for Action Transport Theatre including Night Train and Scratches in the Earth. Her play The Tree was produced by Action Transport Theatre in 2007 and subsequently shortlisted for Theatre Centre's Adrienne Benham Award 2009. Sarah was highly commended in the BBC's Alfred Bradley Bursary Award 2009 and is being mentored by BBC Radio Drama. Sarah is currently working on a stage version of Andrea Ashworth's novel, Once in a House on Fire, for Monkeywood Theatre which will tour in 2011. She is also part of North West Vision & Media's screenwriting initiative, Drafted.

Sarah's recent acting credits include Be My Baby and A Taste of Honey for Northface Theatre; Love Shaped Thing, Maine Road and Caligari for BBC Radio; Night Train and A Million Shades of Pink for Action Transport Theatre; Come Back for Vita Nova Films, and Somebody's Son at the Lawrence Batley Theatre, Sheffield Lyceum & Library Theatre Manchester. Work with Monkeywood includes Closer, Coach G, A Song for the Lovers, Last Orders and Maine Road.
